Build Season Begins
Well it's that time again, you guessed it build season! Time to start creating some designs, building some mock-ups, and getting ready for this years competition!
The Year Begins Again . . . 8-30-2011
Even after a successful 2011 season, Team 2010 is still looking to better itself with a fresh new year. The first team meeting was held today both to repair the former robot for demonstration and to orchestrate an Open House of sorts, to attract new members to the team. Only six months until build season!
The Buckeye State Regional
Coming off of the Granite State Regional, Team 2010 had a clear cut goal in order to get ready for the Buckeye Regional: Finish the Minibot! After several weeks of rapid designing, building, and wiring, the Minibot was completed, climbing the metal pole in as quickly as two seconds! With that stellar peformance, Team 2010 was able to climb through the ranks at the Buckeye Regional--reaching the 8th seed before the Elimination Round. Combining with Teams 888 and 2603, The Lightning Bots hoped to go all the way, as they did in 2009, and win the Buckeye Regional starting with the quater finals. But it would seem, fate was not on our side this year, being bested in two of three rounds and eliminated in the Quarter Finals. Yet, Team 2010 can be proud of yet another successful season, both on the game field and in their own ingenuity.
The Granite State Regional!!!
Team 2010 just returned from competing in Manchester, New Hampshire over the weekend where we finally got the opportunity to pit our fantastic creation against those of several other teams, from New England to California and even to Brazil! Overcoming some initial technical problems and a tight weight limit for our robot, we went on to finish 37th in the competition with a 4-6-0 record. Though the elimination round eluded us, we were recognized with the Industrial Safety Award, an award given to the team that always keeps “Safety FIRST,” from the pit, to the field, and back again. We are looking forward to the Buckeye Regional, as well as preparing our minibot design for competition there.
SHIPPED!!
Or rather bagged . . . Amidst the work and toil filling the air, a quite excitement began to crescendo. Six long weeks of work finally catalyzed the existence of the pride of many a team member, a running robot ready to show the world its abilities. With our beloved robot finally in its temporary plastic home, we, with a sigh of exhaustion, though mixed with a sense of accomplishment, rested for the coming trial of our dearest creation, competition. In that spirit, we are still busy preparing for next week's competition! But nonetheless, our robot is bagged and ready for the BAE Systems/Granite State Regional!
Week Update! 2-19-2011
This week, the team has learned the
literal meaning of “24/7”. This is crunch week, and the entire team is
in full gear as we prepare to finalize all projects and our most
important feature, the robot. We have been at the school each day this
week, working until our mentors kick us out.
Over the past week, we’ve submitted our Woodie Flowers and our Website
award. We’ve worked very hard on these awards and hope they do well in
the judging process. Both the build and design teams are working away
tirelessly in the shop, making sure our robot works on all aspects
before ship day.
Ship day’s on the 22nd, and we’re very excited. Our team is competing
in New Hampshire for the BAE Systems/Granite State Regional on March
3rd. Good luck to all teams with competitions coming up! We’ll be sure
to update soon, and check our Twitter
for our rankings during the competition.
Week Update! 2-11-2011
This week has been very busy, both in the
shop and out. As ship day gets closer and closer, we’re feeling crunch
time kick in. The robot’s drive train is completely installed along
with the slider mechanism, and the claw is almost finished. We should
be completely functional in the next few days. We will be painting the
robot frame purple this week, the perfect show of our 2010 team spirit.
Our PR team is making team awards to pass out at competitions, along
with buttons and bracelets. Website team is typing away, making this
site look good. Animation is working at “Changing Their World,” and
it’s going well. That’s it for this week. Check back next week to hear
about what may be the most stressful and exciting week of the season.

Week Update! 2-4-2011
AH! SNOWMAGEDON! During this week, as you
may have seen on the news, there was some major snow. We missed Tuesday
and Wednesday due to icy roads. But now we’re back up and running as if
nothing ever happened.
The entire team is busy, feeling the pressure of the approaching due
dates. The build team is laboring in the shop, currently working on
installing the drive train, claw mechanism and lift for the robot. The
design team is quickly and carefully preparing the mini bot so that it
can be ready for integration into the main robot. The PR team is proof
reading and making adjustments to awards, while the website team just
updated our site to v3.2, which now includes the all-important sponsors
without whom none of this would be possible. The PR team is also
preparing to paint the shipping crate in the upcoming week.
Joe says (describing the week): "Work"
Team 2010, signing off until next week. Check back then for another
update!
Week Update!! 1-31-2011
The team is well into the build season, and all the sub teams have been working hard. The PR team is finishing the Woodie Flowers Award, and the Animation team is working hard to get the animation finished for the Animation Award. The website has been updated to version 3.1 with the team profile board and photos section. The robot is slowly transforming from its humble paper origins into actuality and a mini-bot is soon to be born due to the hard work of the Design and Build teams. At this point, the team is in full gear as we prepare for competition. We will be competing in Manchester, New Hampshire on March 3rd- 5th and in Cleveland, Ohio April 7th- 9th. Check back often on the website and twitter page for more updates and info!
KICKOFF!! 1-19-2011
We started off with a great kickoff, and everything went fairly well. Here in the PR room, many things have started up. Soon enough we will be making buttons, and bracelets to hand out at competitions. Along with creating awards to also hand out at competitions for special types of teams, such as most spirited, most interesting pit, coolest t-shirts, and best mascot. Such things are not limited too just those. Many other awards are in the process, and being created. Along with many tactics, the build, and design team have been working playing field tactics, and working on finding ways to score possible points.
