Team 2010, one of the many teams already participating through FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), is currently engaged in their fourth season. Last year, during our third season, the Lightning Bots defined themselves as a very successful and hardworking team, winning the Buckeye Regional

Team 2010 enlisted the help of experienced engineers from their primary sponsor, Delphi, to guide the students through the challenges of becoming a FIRST robotics team. As last year’s season progressed, we had leveled out to a total of only 22 students, which is a small number compared to other FIRST veteran teams. Despite our limited membership and inexperience, we worked to earn the respect of other veteran teams.

At the Cleveland regional match, our first competition last year, we proved that we could achieve many goals during our third year. We worked hard, played well and won several matches. We competed in the elimination matches and were one of three teams in the championship alliance. As a result, we won the Buckeye Regional and earned the chance to go to the championship competition in Atlanta, Georgia, but had to decline the offer.

At the SBPLI Long Island regional in 2009, the Lightning Bots made it to the semi-finals. We ended up coming in fourth. We didn’t win any awards, but we were in contention for multiple awards. Despite this, we had a great time and made many new friends.

Now that Team 2010 is in our fourth season, we are striving to continue our prior success. The kickoff, which reveals this year's challenge to teams all around the world, was held on Jan. 10, 2010. From that point the team only gets six weeks and three days to design, build, and ship the robot for upcoming competitions. This year’s game, Breakaway, poses new challenges for all teams. They know this year will be a challenge because of field and time obstacles.
