FIRST Team 2010
Team 2010 The Lightning Bots, one of many teams participating in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition or FRC is currently engaged in its sixth season. Every year, it is the goal of the team to design, build, wire, and code a robot to compete in this competition. Through these actions we hope not only to gain the technical skills necessary in an ever more technological society, but also to learn to think critically, to innovate, and to be leaders in our respective fields well beyond our time spent in the robotics program.
With the help of engineers from Delphi of Warren, Ohio, our sponsor, students from Champion High School worked together to form Team 2010 in 2007. A rookie team in the FRC, 2010 went on to win the Rookie All-Star Award at the Pittsburgh Regional, persevering in the face of inexperience and limited numbers to not only create an effective robot, but to also exemplify the ideals of FIRST.
From there, The Lightning Bots soared, building another robot for competition in each consecutive year, and eventually, in 2009, mentoring a rookie team of their own: Team 2901 The Rocket Sock'em Robots of Maplewood High School. In concert with Team 2901, both teams built not one, but two robots, as two separate teams working together . . . an example of 'coopertition' at its finest. With the mentorship of Team 2010, The Rocket Sock'em Robots went on to win the Rookie Inspiration Award at the Pittsburgh Regional in 2009.
Now entering a new season, The Lightning Bots look to continue prior successes, building a robot in six weeks and three days to perform in the 2012 FRC game, Reabound Rumble. With an inventive mind and a creative spirit, Team 2010 will learn much from this coming year, in terms of science, technology, and more importantly ourselves.
