With the closure of the second week of build season upon us, FIRST Team 2010 is still working hard. This week has shown some trial and error, but a definite step forward. Due to some complications with the design, the initial start of actually building the robot has been set back. But with some guidance from our wonderful mentors, we're back on track and the design team is finalizing their ideas. The build team has also remained busy, prototyping different shooting and basketball grabbing mechanisms. Things have been going well, and the prototypes work rather well. The Programming team is also working hard, learning how to program the camera to fit our needs. On the other side of the team, PR is also working hard. The members are multitaskig between the Chairman's and Woodie Flowers Awards, fundrasing, tee- shirts, and preparing our Are You Smarter Than a Robotics Student event. Things are frantic, but going well. Our current fundraiser is Butterbraid. We're selling through February 2nd, so please contact a member if you're interested in buying some yummy treats! Keep checking back here for updates and be sure to check out the rest of the site!
The build season is here once again, and the Lightning Bots are getting ready to rumble! Our design team is sitting at their computers, working on what will be our future robot. The build team is making a mock playing field, using the dimensions given by FIRST to make a set of basketball hoops. The programming and electrical team are also getting to work, planning and testing different ideas. On the otherhand, the PR team is planning fundraisers, working on tee- shirt design and getting to work on awards. In other news, Team 2010 has created a Facebook page, which you can find here. We've also created a blog on Tumblr, which can be found here. Also, a huge thanks to Cleveland Communications for becoming a signiture sponsor! We're wishing all teams a happy build season and hope your techinical difficulties are light!
Team 2010 is hosting their third annual Home Shopping Bazaar on December 3rd in the Champion High School cafeteria. The Bazaar will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In attendance will be Lia Sophia, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Arbonne, Mary Kay, Stampin' Up, Creative Memories, Thirty- One, Princess House, Miche's, Tastefully Simple, Roman's Candles, Premire Designs Jewelry, Avon, and many more! Concessions will also be available. We hope to see you there!
Even after a successful 2011 season, Team 2010 is still looking to better itself with a fresh new year. The first team meeting was held today both to repair the former robot for demonstration and to orchestrate an Open House of sorts, to attract new members to the team. Only six months until build season!
Coming off of the Granite State Regional, Team 2010 had a clear cut goal in order to get ready for the Buckeye Regional: Finish the Minibot! After several weeks of rapid designing, building, and wiring, the Minibot was completed, climbing the metal pole in as quickly as two seconds! With that stellar peformance, Team 2010 was able to climb through the ranks at the Buckeye Regional--reaching the 8th seed before the Elimination Round. Combining with Teams 888 and 2603, The Lightning Bots hoped to go all the way, as they did in 2009, and win the Buckeye Regional starting with the quater finals. But it would seem, fate was not on our side this year, being bested in two of three rounds and eliminated in the Quarter Finals. Yet, Team 2010 can be proud of yet another successful season, both on the game field and in their own ingenuity.
Team 2010 just returned from competing in Manchester, New Hampshire over the weekend where we finally got the opportunity to pit our fantastic creation against those of several other teams, from New England to California and even to Brazil! Overcoming some initial technical problems and a tight weight limit for our robot, we went on to finish 37th in the competition with a 4-6-0 record. Though the elimination round eluded us, we were recognized with the Industrial Safety Award, an award given to the team that always keeps “Safety FIRST,” from the pit, to the field, and back again. We are looking forward to the Buckeye Regional, as well as preparing our minibot design for competition there.
Or rather bagged . . . Amidst the work and toil filling the air, a quite excitement began to crescendo. Six long weeks of work finally catalyzed the existence of the pride of many a team member, a running robot ready to show the world its abilities. With our beloved robot finally in its temporary plastic home, we, with a sigh of exhaustion, though mixed with a sense of accomplishment, rested for the coming trial of our dearest creation, competition. In that spirit, we are still busy preparing for next week's competition! But nonetheless, our robot is bagged and ready for the BAE Systems/Granite State Regional!
This week, the team has learned the
literal meaning of
“24/7”. This is crunch week, and the entire team is in full gear as we
prepare to finalize all projects and our most important feature, the
robot. We have been at the school each day this week, working until our
mentors kick us out.
Over the past week, we’ve submitted
our Woodie Flowers and our Website award. We’ve worked very hard on
these awards and hope they do well in the judging process. Both the
build and design teams are working away tirelessly in the shop, making
sure our robot works on all aspects before ship day.
Ship day’s on the 22nd, and we’re very excited. Our team is competing
in New Hampshire for the BAE Systems/Granite State Regional on March
3rd. Good luck to all teams with competitions coming up! We’ll be sure
to update soon, and check our Twitter
for our rankings during the competition.
FIRST Team 2010 The Lightning Bots is a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) team, located in Champion, Ohio, competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition or FRC. Sponsored primarily by Delphi of Warren, Ohio, as well as many other sponsors, Team 2010 is now entering its 6th season after many successful years in the FIRST program. The FIRST program promotes science and technology through a unique relationship formed between students, teachers, mentors, and businesses by competing in the annual competition.
